Questions for Conny Müller – Photo Contest “Opposites”
When did you start your photography?
I got my first analog camera for my first communion in 1962. Since then, the subject has never let go of me. Photography became particularly interesting for me when I was able to combine my subjects of graphics/painting and photography through digitization.
Is photography your hobby or your profession?
Photography is still my favorite hobby, but thanks to the numerous photo competitions I have won, some newspaper articles and publications in the photo community or on Facebook, I am frequently asked to provide pictures or create entire photo reportages. Of course I am happy to accept these assignments.
How and where was the image taken which you entered to the competition? Is there a story about it?
This romantic motif was created during a wonderful walk through a fragrant lavender garden. The young lady has a very special affection for our Podenco Kalli, which is reflected in this carefree embrace. We enjoyed the break in nature and let the two of them play. Afterwards, I used Photoshop to give the lavender a more dense look.
Who and/or what inspires you most?
I am inspired above all by the world around me. I love discovering new things, traveling and getting to know people and nature. I like to be inspired by the little moments of everyday life. A smile, a look, a gesture – all of these can be an exciting motif. I have a lot of free time to think and look around. It’s important for me to find the right moment. I observe people and talk to them to find out their stories. This helps me to see the world, as well as landscapes and animals, from a different perspective and to develop new ideas. I am convinced that photography is more than just capturing a moment. It can also be a means of conveying emotions and telling stories.
What’s your photographic focus?
As a photographer, I am a curious person. I am simply interested in everything that has to do with photography. From landscapes and portraits to abstract art – I’m open to everything. It’s very difficult for me to get enthusiastic about just one photographic genre. Photography is too diverse and changes every day. I’m always discovering new techniques and possibilities that I want to try out. At the moment, I’m inspired by things from AI such as generative fillings etc. I’m always on the lookout for new challenges and inspiration. Photography is a kind of philosophy of life for me. It helps me to see and understand the world around me.
What’s your next photo project, your next challenge?
I would like to take a trip at the beginning of next year, which has not been possible in recent years for various reasons.
Do you include color management in your photographic workflow?
As I am a huge fan of colors, this is of course very important!
What do you do with your photos? Do you print them, post them on your social media accounts or your website or do they simply stay on your hard drive?
A big YES to all of the above. See below for details. In addition, our house (Blue House in Essen) is a popular meeting place for artists and friends.
What’s your photographic goal? What do you dream of?
My biggest dream is to touch people with my pictures and inspire them to see the world with new eyes. I want my pictures to leave a lasting impression and for people to be able to identify with them. In order to realize this dream, I would like to increase my popularity. I want my pictures to be seen by more people. I want to have exhibitions and publish my pictures in magazines and books
About the author – Conny Müller
Every area of photography has its appeal, its challenge and its time. I am particularly interested in unusual photographic ideas and experiments. Photography is one thing for me, image processing is quite another. Now there are also additions or enhancements through Photoshop AI. But my starting point is always my photo. When all the possibilities have been weighed up, it completes it for me and only then is my idea fulfilled and sometimes I am satisfied with my photo.
I’m interested in architecture, especially at night (if it’s the industrial culture of the Ruhr area, I really blossom), people at work and in individual action, not staged, but natural, nature (especially with macro), my travels (I like to kill two birds with one stone). Also, I’m always magically attracted to colors, which doesn’t mean that I haven’t done the odd black and white. In fact, anything that has an interesting story is worth shooting for me.
