Perfect wedding colors: Create and implement your own color concept

Be prepared and gather inspiration

When choosing the location for your celebration, it is a good idea to check it for the prevailing colors right away. When visiting the venue for the first time, remember to take photos of the premises and take a closer look at the colors dominating the room – floor, wall design, ceiling, chairs – even the furniture.

Along with taking photos of all of the room elements, it’s great to scan their colors using the ColorReader EZ. Set a main color for the wedding color scheme

When you look at all of the color samples you’ve scanned, you’ll see which colors you’re naturally drawn to, as well as which colors harmonize well with each other (ColorReader EZ can help you with this, too, with its coordinating colors feature). deally, you should select a main color that matches the colors of your venue, then incorporate other colors that will complement and coordinate with this main hue.

Another approach for choosing a main color is to tap into your own personal color preferences:

What is your favorite color?
What colors are dominating at the time the wedding is supposed to take place? (Spring pastels, bright summer hues, warm autumn shades or cool winter colors)

A stroll through the city can also help – which colors appeal to you in the flower store? Which shades of clothing catch your eye? What is the color of the beautifully painted wall in your favorite restaurant? What shade is that fabulous piece of furniture in your go-to coffee spot? What color lipstick or nail polish do you love?

Once you’ve decided on one or more colors as candidates for the “leading” color, take a look how that color works with your venue’s dominant colors. (Use the ColorReader EZ to see if the suggested color palettes are similar). If the colors work together, you’re good to go!

Find color harmonies that complement the main color

A good rule of thumb for color is to choose a main color then two hues that coordinate with it – a secondary and an accent color. Adding too many colors can create a look that feels inharmonious or too busy. A secondary color along with an accent color can showcase the main color in a beautifully balanced way.
